Jimmy Leach is a professional musician living in Holland, MI. Since moving to Michigan in the summer of 2005, he has performed with the Grand Rapids Symphony, the West Shore Symphony, and the Michigan IAJE Reading Band. Prior to moving to Michigan, Jimmy lived in the Boston area for eight years as he worked toward a DMA in trumpet performance at Boston University, where he studied with Tom Rolfs, principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His dissertation research involves Louis Armstrong and his singing. Around New England, Jimmy performed in both jazz and classical settings
with many diverse styles from avant-garde jazz to historic performance
on period instruments. As an educator, Jimmy has served in public schools and universities
including five semesters at Harvard College where he received three
Certificates of Distinction in Teaching for his work as a teaching
assistant with classes in music history, music theory, and jazz. Jimmy
has presented papers at the Midwest Chapter of the American Musicological
Society and the International Association of Jazz Educators. |
